3. Strawberry Salsa (p. 896)

What with the salmonella scare affecting the nation's tomato supply, I figured that it would be good to try a tomato-less sals-alternative.

The list of ingredients in this recipe (strawberries, onion, jalapeƱo pepper, cilantro and lime) make this dip a little bit scary. But, like everyone at my family's Father's Day celebration who was brave enough to try it, I really liked this salsa. The flavors (sweet, hot, tangy) melded well, and it didn't come off as a fruity salsa.

The blurb in The Book suggests it as a substitute for pepper jelly, and recommends serving it with roast chicken or pork. I doubled the recipe and served it with tortilla chips as a salsa substitute, and it was great.

Hey Adam!

Welcome to the fun! You've actually started off with three recipes I haven't made, so I was interested to see how you liked them.

Let's see, if I could suggest a few winners that I loved, that would be nice for summer I'd go with the Prosecco and Summer Fruit Terrine (I think that's what it's called--it definitely has Prosecco in the title), the Truffle Cookies, and for an odd but I thought delicious summer salad, the Watermelon, Tomato and Feta Salad.

I'll be checking in, and I notice you're in MA--whereabouts? I'm up in Rockport.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Melissa! I've been following you, Teena and Kevin religiously for the past several weeks, and I just couldn't resist joining in the fun.

Thanks for the recipe suggestions, I think that I'll give them a try soon.

There must be something about us folks from Massachusetts that makes us crazy enough to try something like this. You, me and Teena are all from the Bay State. (I'm in Methuen.)
